Why do we meet for worship at Christ Church?
Our aim is that the crucified and
risen Lord Jesus should be at the centre of our worship.
We remember how Jesus, God's own Son, left all the glory of His Father's
presence, took on human nature, and came into our world. He was born into
poverty in the land of Judea, by then a Roman province.
At about age 30, he began to teach and preach about the Kingdom of God. He
healed many people, welcomed those who no one else cared about and showed us
how God wants us to live our lives. But, He was more than just a good
example.
The Bible tells us that we have all failed to live up to God's perfect
standards. That is called sin and sin cuts us off from God. Some of the
people rejected Jesus. In the end he was arrested, falsely accused and
condemned to die the terrible death of crucifixion on a Roman cross.
His death was no accident. In fact, in dying he was paying to God the debt
we owe him because of all our short-comings. He was dying in our place. He
was the perfect sacrifice for sin. Three days later, on that first Easter
Sunday, he rose from the dead. He had defeated sin and death. He opened up
for us the way back to God.
God is prepared to give you a new start, forgiveness, real certainty as we
face the future with him. His gift of real life, eternal life, is free. We
can do nothing to earn it. So, what does God want us to do? He wants us
simply to put our faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ - to trust him as
our Lord and Saviour.
Week by week that is certainly something worth celebrating!
